Learn about our work to serve schools, educators and families with great nature and education programs.

Established in January 2012, the Quarrybrook Outdoor Learning Center is a private non-profit organization dedicated to providing hands-on, inquiry-based learning experiences in nature. Located in Windham, New Hampshire, Quarrybrook works with teachers and other educators to create standards-based field trips that are driven by first-hand investigations and exploration while also incorporating a strong sense of fun and adventure. With a 245-acre wilderness classroom, our educators strive to connect students and visitors with the natural world and help to inspire their innate curiosity through personal discovery and first-hand experiences.

The Learning Center building is comprised of several activity rooms and gathering spaces that offer field trip participants and other visitors a place to continue learning even when the weather turns bad. Designs for the building include many “green” elements such as the solar photovoltaic roof and the geothermal energy system. With education at the center of our mission, we have designed large viewing areas around these systems in order to allow visiting classrooms and other groups to explore and study these green technologies up close, incorporating the very building into the overall education program for the site.

As a private facility, we are open to scheduled groups, special functions and events but plan to incorporate community events, family fun days, volunteer days and other such activities into our calendar, to share the beauty of Quarrybrook’s forest with the local community.
